Kate Garraway Skinny isnt best

Kate Garraway has admitted she is shocked girls as young as six are concerned about their body shape.

The GMTV presenter lost two stone in four months after giving birth to second child William last year, weight loss the Mirror yesterday revealed was helped by free hampers of slimming meals.

But the 42-year-old, whose daughter Darcey will be four next week, welcomed the arrival of size 16 models on the catwalk at London Fashion Week as helping give people a more realistic approach to body shape.

In her column in new! magazine she writes: “Like a lot of mothers, I was really shocked by the findings on Jo Frost’s new show, Extreme Parental Guidance, that girls as young as six are already conscious of their size and wish they were thinner.

“It’s terrible to think that at that age Darcey might be so conscious of what she eats and think that ultra-thin is best.

“I was really pleased, therefore, to see that the designer Mark Fast used size-16 models at London Fashion Week.

“I think it’s so important for kids to see curvy women on the catwalk, and given that BeyoncĂ© was voted Best Celebrity Body in a poll last week – while Victoria Beckham was voted the worst – I really hope the tide is turning and that our obsession with size zero is on the wane.”
