GMTV presenter Kate Garraway was forced to change her dress during the show after producers of the programme decided her attire was 'too bright, too early'.
The 41-year-old presenter, who is expecting her second child this summer, arrived on air at 6am in a bright red satin dress.
But viewers were left rubbing their eyes when at about 6.45am she reappeared in an oatmeal-coloured outfit.
GMTV admitted that the decision had been taken for her to switch clothing because the first dress was overpowering for so early in the day.
The fashion faux pas came on the same day that Kate Silverton was mocked on air during BBC Breakfast for her busy patterned blouse.
Her co-host Bill Turnbull took a swipe at the 38-year-old's mumsy top, which resulted in Kate giving him a light-hearted telling-off.
In closing the programme, he quipped: '[Tomorrow] Kate will have another marvellous blouse for us to admire... don't mock the smock.'
In a tone that appeared to have a hint of sarcasm, Kate said to viewers: 'Thank you for the lovely emails.'
It isn't the first time Kate has had her sartorial sense criticised.
Viewers were stunned by a violently bright green and yellow psychedelic blouse and matching scarf she wore during 2006's Oscar coverage.
The pattern was so loud she was forced to apologise live on air, after the BBC was flooded with complaints.
She said: 'My blouse has divided opinion.
'I apologise if it has made you turn down the contrast on your set.
'It has divided opinion and I do apologise to those of you that hate it.'
